Collection: Johnny Was
Johnny Was
Founded in 1987 by Eli Levite, with his children by his side, Johnny Was released a collection of bohemian-spirited tunics accented with artisan-inspired embroidery and painterly prints.
Inspired by the Bob Marley and the Wailers song ‘Johnny Was a Good Man,’ the fashion label Johnny Was was born.
It was with this first collection that Levite’s artistic background revealed itself. Propelled by a key understanding of a woman's desire to imbue effortless, elegant style, Johnny Was collections infuse a sophisticated use of colour, lauded with pretty prints. Today, the label’s talented creative team continues to embrace the inventive expression that fuelled its launch, injecting a Californian bohemian spirit into every design.
A kaleidoscope of swirling florals, geometrics, and animal prints pattern everything from the brand’s signature kimonos, velvet coats, and featherweight silk shirts, augmented with stretch bamboo-jersey dresses and tops–a newly released fabrication that champions the brand’s focus on sustainability.
A global vision informs each design juxtaposing vintage and modern styles, reserved and unrestrained, traditional and innovative. Through each seasonal release, each piece reflects a sense of luxury.
Look forward to impeccably crafted women’s silk kimonos, tops and pants alongside plush velvet kimonos and outerwear, all with delicate hand-finished embroidery and one-of-a-kind prints.
