Collection Notes: Caravan & Co Fall/Winter '24

Welcoming the newest collection from Caravan & Co.

CARAVAN & CO AT THE FORME

Creative director of Melbourne-based designer brand Caravan & Co., Nardia Robertson proclaims, “I love pattern, colour and texture.” Carried by Robertson’s refined perspective of everyday elegance, her Fall/Winter 2024 collection, delivers in spades in all three key areas.

The very best antidote to fashion’s growing problem of excess and disposability is to create clothes that are exceptional and distinctive. In this way, Robertson understands that purchases are made with longevity in the forefront of your mind. There is no doubt that Caravan & Co creates clothing that you want to hold onto. With an uncompromising devotion to quality, the collection is designed to involve pieces that are intended to become hard working and trusted favourites.

The Sequin Tuxedo Shirt is amongst the highlights from the collection, a waterfall of hand-applied sequins cascades down the front, angled haphazardly so that they catch the light exquisitely, shimmering with every move you make. The Japanese call this perfectly imperfect design–wabi sabi–an ongoing motif for Robertson whose fascination with vintage textiles and precious designs identifies and informs each collection.

With Fall/Winter ’24 Robertson hones her focus on leather foundations, choosing to introduce the Hudson Leather Bomber Jacket and Hudson Leather Stretch Pant to the label’s ongoing capsule. Designed and designated to become a wardrobe foundation, a base from which to build all your outfits, generating classic silhouettes at accessible price points that ensure they provide universality and versatility.

In contrast, the collection also highlights a velvety sophistication. Robertson’s refined idea of elegance can be seen in the pared back silhouettes of the voluptuous Valentine Velvet Jacket and Valentine Velvet Pant. Upon comparing the shape of the label’s velvet blazer offered in 2023 with this new season iteration, it becomes clear that Robertson has perfected the art of creating timeless pieces that also capture the cultural zeitgeist of the season. Note the change of a 3-button closure to a contemporary single button closure for 2024; a lesson in expert restraint.

CARAVAN & CO AT THE FORME

Velvet, silk, leather and sequins, Caravan & Co’s new season collection is a true celebration of fashion in all its glory. In the end, what keeps it all together and carries the collection so it feels covetable and “Oh-So-Special” is Nardia Robertson’s unmistakeable and unwavering idea of elegance.
