Collection Notes: Sita Murt Spring/Summer '24
Sita Murt’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection is a celebration and effervescent expression of pure craftsmanship.
After 100 years at the forefront of the knitwear industry, the Spanish label’s creative alchemy is appreciably instinctive. Each season begins with a dedicated team of designers and researchers that develop sophisticated knit patterns, yarns, and techniques that blend a distinct utility with intricate, fanciful and highly decorative designs. The collection maintains a subtlety that emboldens its sense of luxury, notably refined with pared-back silhouettes of the cotton-linen tanks and t-shirts in the collection, that are all made in Portugal. However, this is not to say that there are not pronounced standouts within the collection; the ‘Multicoloured Jacket’ is an example of the label’s mastery of craft and composition. This significant piece is bourrelet knitted–a double knit technique that creates a ribbed or corded effect–in a symphony of colours and yarns that highlight a true standout.
Sita Murt has always been a fashion label driven by a distinctive narrative, creating a world where the texture and manual nature of knitwear manufacturing are the main components of each garment, giving them an extraordinary and ingenious identity. The label calls its newest collection “Mexiterranean” - a nod to the fusion of Mexican and Mediterranean inspirations. The collection embraces an “inspiring Mediterranean ambience”–yielding clothing that looks as though it belongs on Europe’s Mediterranean coast–sophisticated, relaxed and sun drenched. Beyond this, the design team looked to Mexican culture to inform the colour palette of the collection.
The cacophony of vibrant colours, light-bathed architecture, and diverse societies of Mexico have birthed formidable cultural icons. Frida Kahlo defined Mexican portraiture and Guillermo del Toro is an Oscar-winning legend. For Sita Murt, research into Mexican culture led to the discovery of ‘Mexican Pink,’ a rich shade of fuchsia that inspired the diverse, highly saturated palette of their spring/summer stories. Showcased alongside Med-inspired blues and greens, the bright parade of hues truly defines the collection. Sita Murt infuses a ‘lightness of being’ - traditionally unexpected within a knitwear offering, yet this label achieves an appropriate level of comfort and style for the summertime season.
It is this marriage of cultures and inspirations that birthed the collection as we see it today; a balance of simple and organic lines combined with the visual richness imparted through the tantalising textures of the fabrics.
